Quick Start Guide
How to get up and running quickly on Recomly.
Welcome to Recomly. This guide walks you through launching your first referral program — from creating a campaign to getting your first advocate link out the door. It should take about 10 minutes.
Step 1: Create a campaign
A campaign is your referral program. It defines the rewards and gives you a place to manage your advocates and referrals.
- Go to Campaigns in the left navigation
- Click New campaign
- Fill in:
- Campaign name — something short you'll recognize (e.g. "Spring 2026" or "Refer a Friend")
- Advocate reward — what your existing customer earns per successful referral (e.g. $25 or 10%)
- Friend reward — the incentive you're offering the new customer (e.g. $20 off their first job)
- Expiry date — optional; leave blank if you want the campaign to run indefinitely
- Click Create campaign
Your campaign is live immediately.
Not sure what rewards to use? A common starting point for service businesses is a flat $25 for the advocate and a $20 discount for the friend. You can always edit these later — changes apply to future conversions only.
Step 2: Invite your first advocate
An advocate is an existing customer you trust to refer friends. They get a personal referral link — when someone books through it, the referral is credited to them.
- Open your new campaign and click the Advocates tab
- Click Invite advocate
- Enter the customer's name and at least one of:
- Email address — Recomly will send them an invitation email with their link
- Phone number — for customers you'll contact directly
- Click Send invite
That's it. If an email address was provided, your customer receives a branded invitation explaining the program and containing their personal referral link and portal.
Step 3: Your advocate shares their link
Once invited, your advocate has a personal referral link
(e.g. recomly.com/ref/abc123xyz) they can share however they like — text, social
media, word of mouth.
They can always access their advocate portal to:
- Copy their referral link
- Check their reward balance
- See pending and converted referrals
The portal requires no login — it's accessible via a private link sent in their invitation.
Step 4: A friend submits via the link
When someone clicks the referral link, they land on a simple contact form branded with your business name. They enter their name and contact details and submit.
At that point:
- A new referral appears in the Referrals tab of your campaign
- Your advocate receives a notification that someone used their link
- You receive a lead to follow up on
Step 5: Mark the referral as converted
When the referred friend books and pays, open the referral in Recomly and mark it Converted.
- Go to your campaign → Referrals tab
- Find the referral and click Convert
- Confirm the conversion
Marking a referral converted:
- Locks in the reward amounts (snapshotted from the current campaign settings)
- Sends the advocate a reward notification email
- Sends the friend their reward (e.g. a discount code or confirmation)
What's next?
Once your first referral program is running, you can:
